Purpose of the Position: Under general supervision, responsible for overseeing the filing of all types of federal, state, and local tax returns and proper payment of tax obligations in a timely manner. Also supports tax research on complex tax matters in order to minimize the company's tax liability and IRS audit risk. Responsible for researching and supporting acquiring State and County incentives.
Essential Functions: (List all basic responsibilities related to the purpose of the position)
Tax Responsibilities
Tax Compliance ? Responsible for the following returns: Alabama franchise tax return, Alabama assessment of shares return, state and local sales tax returns, Tuscaloosa county property tax return (and other counties as required), 401K Form 5500, annual reports, etc. Ensure compliance with tax laws and avoidance of any penalties.
Tax Accounting ? Responsible for maintaining tax accounts in the General Ledger as well as in maintaining tax accounting records which differ from financial accounting records (ex.: depreciation; inventories; start-up; lobbying; meals and entertainment; contributions; post-retirement benefits; etc.).
Tax Budgeting ? Responsible for the preparation of the financial budget for various tax accounts for current and future years. Compile necessary data for use in the calculation of estimates in order to maintain the accuracy of the tax expenditures budget.
Estimated federal and state tax payments ? Responsible for the correctness of estimated tax liability based on existing financial and tax data in order to ensure that payments are made timely and in compliance with tax laws.
Year-end activities ? Responsible for performing the following activities:
Company car gross-up ? calculate imputed income along with tax gross-up for Vice Presidents and Managers regarding company provided vehicles;
Provide data to Payroll Department for inclusion in W-2;
Relocation gross-up ? calculate tax gross-up for Team Members receiving taxable relocation benefits;
Prepare form 4782
Provide data to Payroll Department for inclusion in W-2.
Forms 1099 ? analyze vendor records for determination of 1099 filing requirements (coordinate with Accounts Payable group); Preparation and filing of forms 1099.
Tax Audit Interface ? Interface with federal, state and local governmental audit personnel. Document requests for information and provide follow-up and reporting to management on outstanding requests.
Other Responsibilities:
Responsible for processing job, posting and reconciliation of payroll postings including on and off cycle. Work with Payroll team to confirm balances and clear up any differences.
Responsible for supporting MBUSI month-end tasks including, but not limited to posting of accruals and deferred income.
Responsible for the financial accounting function for MBUSI subsidiaries and/or sister entities. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, performing the monthly close, financial reporting including account reconciliation, journal entries, cash management, conducting monthly board meeting, etc.
Responsible for the coordination of State and County incentives. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to research and filing of incentives (cash, training, tax, etc.).
Responsible for completing ICS (Risk Control Tracking System) self-assessment, roll-forward, and period-end controls for respective areas.
Responsible for MBUSI's operating profit calculation including working with the Product Costing team to support their update of transfer pricing for all business models. Proper reporting of Base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS). Responsible for working with Daimler North America Tax for review of operating profit model.
Responsible for monitoring and clearing interface error logs for work areas.
Responsible to complete annual VAT claims processing.
Responsible Key User for purchase requisition support to departments including problem solving, clearing of errors, and training.
Create, maintain, and perform training on departmental policy and procedures within and outside of the department, e.g. subject matter expert for creating purchase requisitions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in Tax Accounting
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Preferred Skills:
Corporate tax experience within a manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of SAP
CPA certification

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
